Below is a letter received in December 2015 from Efran Tash,
the recipient of the Irwin Gibbs Scholarship:

“My name is Efran Tash. I am a 4th year studying food science at UC Davis. I am the recipient of the Irwin Gibbs Food Industry Foundation Scholarship. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude out to Robert Gibbs and the Food Industry Foundation for awarding this scholarship to me. It provides me with great financial relief and allows me to focus more on my career, academics, and leadership.

I am interested in new product development and would like to one day be a research director or project manager at a food company. I have participated in several food science competitions and internships related to product development. In addition, I am the president of the UC Davis Food Tech Club and a student representative for the Robert Mondavi Institute Board of Executives.

I heard about special luncheon in March and I would like to attend. Is there any further information I can get on that?

Thank you and I look forward to hearing back!”

Below is a letter received in October 2014, from Jadey Monique Gonzalez.
It is a thank-you to FIF, as well as a post-undergrad update from Jadey:

“Hello Melissa, Leslianne, and Mark,

I express my gratitude again to you all for helping make my scholarship experience even more fruitful than I imagined. Not only was I better able to fund my last year at UC Davis, but I also got to be featured on the CA&ES page, attend the Foodster’s Cioppino Feed and Scholarship Lunch as well other scholarship events. Two weeks after graduation, I continued working in the Quality Control Lab at Mumm Napa. Starting in the middle of July, I started working as the Quality Assurance Manager at Wine Country Kitchens (WCK), a condiment-making company as well as a co-packer for other food companies. I got connected with WCK through the VP of Business Development who I met at the Cioppino feed that we attended last March.

Altogether, it’s been encouraging being able to apply my Food Science background and experiences that I developed while at UCD into the world after university. Thank you all for sharing your positive energy with me.

Take care!

Kind regards,
